The French maritime transport and logistics group CMA CGM, through its subsidiary CMA Terminals, has officially completed the acquisition of a 49% stake in Nador Container Terminal (NCT), the concessionaire responsible for managing and operating the western container terminal of Nador West Med port, located near Melilla and competing with Spanish ports. The ownership structure and voting rights are already established: Marsa Maroc retains a majority stake of 51%, while the French group holds the remaining 49%.. The goal is to combine Marsa Maroc’s experience with the operational and commercial capabilities of the French giant in the global maritime transport market, according to Moroccan media.. The terminal features piers totaling 900 meters in length and reaching a depth of 18 meters, enabling it to receive large container ships. Additionally, it has a 37.5-hectare surface dedicated to storage, handling, and logistics services. The terminal operations are expected to start in 2027, with an annual handling capacity of approximately 1.8 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units). The strategically located port of Nador, in the Western Mediterranean, situated on the main maritime routes connecting Europe, Africa, Asia, and America, emphasizes the importance of this development. Se espera que la incorporación de CMA CGM atraiga líneas navieras regulares y aumente la actividad de transbordo, aprovechando su red global de relaciones comerciales, dicen los expertos.
